報告摘要:Wolfgang Pauli said that surfaces have to be the work of evil due totheir complexity and challenges in understanding their underlying properties.Study of surfaces is even more challenging in the context of tribology, whichis the science and technology of interacting surfaces in relative motion.Tribology is an exciting and highly interdisciplinary field, linked withengineering, physics, chemistry, materials science, mathematics and biology. Itencompasses the study and application of friction, wear, lubrication andrelated surface design aspects.
During this lecture, Professor Tomasz Liskiewicz will explain theimpact of tribology on global economy, and relate to the first systematic studyof friction by Leonardo da Vinci. Tomasz will present several examples of histribological research related to the fundamental understanding of fretting wearphenomenon. He will explain how surface engineering plays a key role inenabling future tribological technologies by providing smart functionalsurfaces with advanced properties. Finally, he will present the future trendsof tribology and surface engineering in the context of the fourth industrialrevolution.
