Non–destructive Assessment of Structural Integrity and Failures (for lightweight structures)

報告簡介:The report presents advanced methods of inspection of lightweight structures subjected to various forms of degradation. The research concerned both single and double bonded structures, which, in light of the wide applications in modern aviation constructions, are of particular importance. In particular, methods of examining mechanical damage as well as thermal and chemical degradation are presented. In the group of problems of mechanical damage, methods of dealing with cracks, delamination, stratification, debonding, voids, etc. Among other topics, there is diagnostic methods for moisture, thermal and chemical degradation, kissing bonds, fingerprint and others. There are proposed several effective research tools that are located in the NDT / SHM areas. In particular, the advantages and disadvantages of the methods used are laser vibrometers; laser-induced fluorescence; electromechanical impedance. All of the aforementioned methods were checked for aeronautical applications. The investigated problems were carried out on samples manufactured of composite materials used in aviation. Each of the used diagnostic methods is optimized, taking into account the accuracy of the results, the time of measurement and processing of the signals as well as the costs of carrying out the research. The results obtained are very promising and at the present time, it can be said that some of them would find the quick practical application.

報告人簡介:Prof. Ostachowicz defended PhD in 1975 at Gdansk University of Technology, Poland. He has been the Head of the Centre of Machine Mechanics at IMP PAN since 1998, as well as the Head of the Department of Mechanics of Intelligent Structures. Since 2004 he has also been working as a full professor at the Gdynia Maritime University and now he holds the Professor position at the Institute of Fluid Flow Machinery in Polish Academy of Sciences (IMP PAN). He is now the Corresponding Member of PAN.

Prof. Ostachowicz’s scientific interests include structural health monitoring techniques, vibration control, structural dynamics, composite structures, multifunctional materials, smart materials and structures, damage assessment of structures. He has published more than 350 research papers, including more than 100 published in top international scientific journals. In 2015, for his outstanding work, Prof. Ostachowicz was rewarded with the honorary member of the Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics.
