In this talk, sequential design methods are presented. Based on the results from initial factorial design, 5 follow-up approaches are suggested; steepest ascent (SA), central composite design (CCD), asymmetric composite design (ACD), overlapping non-central composite design (ONCD), and non-overlapping non-central composite designs (NNCD). Analysis methods for ACD, ONCD, and NNCD are presented using the initial factorial and follow-up design data. Comparison on the number of design points and design efficiencies are given for CCD, ACD, ONCD, and NNCD. A flow chart of employing the sequential design approaches is given to guide the practitioners.

Bio.: Jai-Hyun BYUN is the Dean of College of Engineering in Gyeongsang National University and the vice president of Korea Institute of Industrial Engineers and Korea Society for Quality Management. He holds BS from Seoul National University in 1983, and his MS and PhD degree from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 1985 and 1989, respectively. His research interests include design of physical and computer experiment, quality engineering and management, and six sigma.
