報告簡介:
Concerns with air pollution, energy imports and global warming havespawned the growth of renewable energy such as solar and wind power. Wind poweris uncontrolled and may be generating at a time when no additional power isneeded. Solar power varies with cloud cover and at best is only availableduring daylight hours, while demand often peaks after sunset (see duck curve).Interest in storing power from these intermittent sources grows as therenewable energy industry begins to generate a larger fraction of overallenergy consumption. In this lecture, I will talk about the following threetopics: 1) Isentropic Energy Storage Systems for the Large-Scale Storage ofRenewable Electricity; 2) The Art andScience of Thermal Energy Storage; 3) International Energy Scenarios.
個人簡介: André Thess (born 22. Februar 1964) is the Director of the Instituteof Engineering Thermodynamics at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) andProfessor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Stuttgart. Hisresearch fields are thermochemical energy storage, electrochemical energystorage and analysis of energy systems. His particular interests are simulationof energy storage systems from the micro- to the macroscale, the development ofisentropic energy storage technologies and electric flight. Professor Thess’s book“The Entropy Principle – Thermodynamics for the Unsatisfied” has contributed tothe improvement of teaching methods in undergraduate EngineeringThermodynamics. André Thess received his PhD (summa cum laude) in TheoreticalPhysics from Dresden University of Technology in 1991. Professor Thess is amember of Verein Deutscher Ingenieure (VDI), of the German Aerospace Society(DGLR), of the German Physics Society (DPG) and lifetime member of the AmericanPhysical Society (APS). He served as a member of the bureau of theInternational Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) and as a boardmember of the GAMM. He has been member of the scientific board (Fachkollegium)of the German Science Foundation DFG from 2008 to 2016 and has served as a Chairmanof the Research Training Group “Lorentz Force Velocimetry and Lorentz ForceEddy Current Testing” at Ilmenau Unviersity of Technology from 2010 to 2013.André Thess is married and has two sons.
